This letter recognizes the high standards of performance I enjoyed when contracting
Steve Phillips for the extensive refurbishment and remodeling of my home in
Jacksonville, Florida. Our rental home had fallen into a state of total disrepair. I
did not renew the lease of our tenant in order to remodel the property and try to
bring it up to an acceptable standard. I didn't have any references for a General
Contractor to do the work so I relied on the internet and yellow pages to find
potential candidates, got some preliminary estimates, then paid a visit to
Jacksonville to interview and select someone to do the work.
Steve Phillips was one of the three contractors I asked for estimates to do a set
volume of work. All three were fairly close in price and one of the three had a very
impressive list of references and some very satisfied customers with whom I met and
asked questions. In the end, however, I selected Steve to do the work. I felt he had
the best overall grasp of the product I wanted and impressed me with his very
positive attitude, apparent attention to detail and willingness to work closely with
me and my wife to ensure the best possible result.
Steve proved to be an excellent communicator and organizer. He performed all
work at the agreed upon price and within the timeframe we agreed upon. We
experienced growth in the scope of work but all growth was as a result of discovery
as the project progressed, or because I changed my mind and wanted more to be
done, and not because any given task was underestimated by Steve. The result was
better than I imagined it would be thanks to Steve and the attention to detail he paid
in supervising and performing the work. He communicated well with us both by
email and telephone and promptly reconciled any questions or concerns as they
unfolded. At the end of the project he even helped identify new renters for the home.
I would strongly recommend Phillips Building and Contracting to others and be
